Mr. Tran, with a long history of innovations, founded V-Silicon in February 2018 to serve the Smart TV market and deliver best-in-class picture and audio quality.
In March 2018, Mr. Tran purchased all Sigma Designs’ TV/STB assets, products and IP portfolio and in December 2018, Mr. Tran established a Joint Venture in China, V-Silicon Semiconductor (Hefei), together with local investors, to expand its market to Asia.
Mr. Tran was previously the Founder of Sigma Designs where he served as Chairman and CEO since its inception in 1982. Under Mr. Tran’s leadership, the Company grew from a small start-up to a global multibillion-dollar publicly traded NASDAQ company , weathering the many ups and downs of the industry, economy, and rapid changes in technology. Mr. Tran has played an integral role in transitioning the business from solutions for personal computer displays to solutions for consumer appliances in the smart home.
Mr Tran also has extensive experience raising capital, executing M&A transactions, and providing guidance to many start-ups. Mr. Tran received a B.S.E.E. from the University of Wisconsin in 1974 and his M.S.E.E. from Stanford University in 1975.
Chairman and CEO, V-Silicon Semiconductor (Hefei)
Mr. Li Yajun serves as CEO and Chairman of the Joint Venture, V-Silicon Semiconductor Hefei. He received a bachelor’s degree from Beijing University of Posts and Telecommunications and an EMBA degree from China Europe International Business School. Mr. Li used to work in the Finance Department of the Design Institute of the Ministry of Posts and Telecommunications, the CFO of Datang Unionchip Technology, and the Managing Partner/Vice President of Shanghai Pudong Science and Technology Investment. He has nearly 30 years of investment and senior management experience in the semiconductor industry. He has held senior management positions in the central enterprises for a long time. Financial and industrial background, with deep resources and personal connections in the communications and semiconductor fields.
The case of the privatization of Montage Technology initiated and led by Mr. Li won the “Best Chinese Concept Stock Privatization Award” in the Golden Whistle Award for China’s Cross-border Investment M&A by Morning Watch Group in 2014, and Qing Ke Group’s 2019 China Equity Investment Annual Conference “2019 China The Most Influential VC/PE Supporting IPO Case.” Mr. Li has also received personal awards such as “China’s Top Ten Buyers” by Morning Whistle Group and “Golden Finance Elite Investor” by Shanghai Securities News.
Chief Financial Officer
Ms. Nie has more than 25 years of financial accounting and senior management experience dealing with financial budgets, planning, forecasting, analysis, tax planning and problem solving both in China and UK. She has good understanding of both US GAAP and IAS and is fluent English speaking. Before joining V-Silicon, Ms. Nie managed all China Finance and HR functions at Mycronic since 2013. Mycronic is Swedish high-tech company listed on Nasdaq Stockholm stock markets. Prior to Mycronic, Linda served as CFO of Emile Tech Co. and Finance Controller of mInfo Tech Co. Ms. Nie has an Accounting degree from China Petroleum University, MSc in International Accounting & Finance from Cass Business School, City University (London).
Chief Technology Officer
Dr. Bellers has more than 25 years of professional experience in video signal processing covering research, development, and team management. He has been key in the development of many successful video algorithms including de-interlacing, motion estimation and motion compensation technology, 2D local dimming, noise reduction, sharpness enhancement, high dynamic range processing, and many more. Prior to V-Silicon, he was a Fellow at Sigma Designs and responsible for video innovation technology leading the team to develop best-in-class video quality algorithms. Prior to Sigma Designs Dr Bellers has been in various positions including director, senior principle, senior video architect and research scientist at Trident Microsystems, NXP Semiconductors, Philips Semiconductors and Philips Research respectively. Dr Bellers received his MSEE degree from University of Twente, the Netherlands, and his PhD degree from Delft University of Technology, the Netherlands.
Senior Executive VP
Mr. Chiang has 30 years of experiences in the semiconductor and high technology industry. Before joining V-Silicon, he was General Manager at UTStarcom, North America. Before that, he was the Chief Operation Officer at Kiwi-Image which is a fabless design company in Shanghai, China and he managed both sales and operation teams, Senior Director of Program Management at UMC USA for semiconductor foundry business, Senior Director of Program Management at Trident Inc. and Pixelworks Inc. for supporting worldwide TV leading customers from design to mass productions. Mr. Chiang received BSEE from University of Chinese Culture University in Taiwan and MSEE from University of Southern California.
SVP of Software Engineering
Mr. Liu has 30 years of experience with a primary focus on software development and applications engineering. Prior to joining V-Silicon, he was the vice president of software development and Asia Pacific general manager at Sigma Designs. Before that, he was the vice president of engineering at ICube Corp, vice president of software and applications engineering at C2 Microsystems, vice president of applications engineering at Magnum Semiconductor, vice president of software engineering at MediaTek China and CrystalMedia (MediaTek USA), and vice president of software development at Tvia, Inc. Mr. Liu received a BSEE from Hefei University of Technology, China and an MSEE from Wichita State University, Kansas. He was also a Ph.D. candidate at the University of Wisconsin – Madison.
SVP of Hardware Engineering
Dr. Liang has more than 20 years of industry experience in the field of image/video processing and chip development. Before joining V-Silicon, he served as R&D Director of video processing group in Trident Microsystems and Sr. Director of engineering in Sigma Designs respectively. He led the team to develop world-leading video processing IP and TV SoC chips, which are widely used in 1st tier TV brands including Sony, Samsung and Vizio. Dr. Liang graduated from Nanjing University of Posts and Telecommunications with a bachelor’s degree; and obtained his Ph.D. degree from the Institute of Image Communication and Network Engineering, Shanghai Jiao Tong University.
