Chairman and CEO
Mr. Tran, with a long history of innovations, founded V-Silicon to serve the Smart TV market and deliver best-in-class picture and audio quality. Mr. Tran was previously the co-founder of Sigma designs where he served as President and Chief Executive Officer since the company’s inception in 1982. Under Mr. Tran’s leadership, the Company grew from a small start-up to a global multimillion-dollar public company, weathering the many ups and downs of the industry, economy, and rapid changes in technology. Mr. Tran has played an integral role in transitioning the business from solutions for personal computer displays to solutions for consumer appliances in the smart home. Prior to founding Sigma Designs, Mr. Tran was employed by Amdahl Corporation and Trilogy Systems Corporation, both of which were involved in the IBM-compatible mainframe computer market. Mr. Tran received a B.S.E.E. from the University of Wisconsin in 1974 and his M.S.E.E. from Stanford University in 1975.
Chief Financial Officer
Ms. Nie has more than 25 years of financial accounting and senior management experience dealing with financial budgets, planning, forecasting, analysis, tax planning and problem solving both in China and UK. She has good understanding of both US GAAP and IAS and is fluent English speaking. Before joining V-Silicon, Ms. Nie managed all China Finance and HR functions at Mycronic since 2013. Mycronic is Swedish high-tech company listed on Nasdaq Stockholm stock markets. Prior to Mycronic, Linda served as CFO of Emile Tech Co. and Finance Controller of mInfo Tech Co. Ms. Nie has an Accounting degree from China Petroleum University, MSc in International Accounting & Finance from Cass Business School, City University (London).
Senior Vice President and Chief Operating Officer
Mr. Cobar has more than 30 years of professional experience in the high technology industry. Most recently, as the Vice President of Worldwide Sales for Silicon Image, he founded their new HDMI business for the television, set-top box, PC and AVR markets. During his tenure from 2002 to 2010, Mr. Cobar played a fundamental role in driving the company’s growth to over $200M in annualized sales. Previously, Mr. Cobar worked for Sun Microsystems as Director of Strategic Sales and Marketing for Volume Server/Thin Client Products, where he grew sales from zero to $72 million in less than two years. He has also worked for Xerox Corporation as a Process Manufacturing Engineer. Mr. Cobar holds a Bachelor of Science in Systems Engineering from San Jose State University and a Masters in Business Administration/Marketing from Golden Gate University.
Executive Vice President and Asia Pacific General Manager
Mr. Liu has 30 years of experience with a primary focus on software development and applications engineering. Prior to joining V-Silicon, he was the vice president of software development and Asia Pacific general manager at Sigma Designs. Before that, he was the vice president of engineering at ICube Corp, vice president of software and applications engineering at C2 Microsystems, vice president of applications engineering at Magnum Semiconductor, vice president of software engineering at MediaTek China and CrystalMedia (MediaTek USA), and vice president of software development at Tvia, Inc. Mr. Liu received a BSEE from Hefei University of Technology, China and an MSEE from Wichita State University, Kansas. He was also a Ph.D. candidate at the University of Wisconsin – Madison.
Senior Vice President Global Operations and China General Manager
Mr. Chiang has 30 years of experiences in the semiconductor and high technology industry. Before joining V-Silicon, he was General Manager at UTStarcom, North America. Before that, he was the Chief Operation Officer at Kiwi-Image which is a fabless design company in Shanghai, China and he managed both sales and operation teams, Senior Director of Program Management at UMC USA for semiconductor foundry business, Senior Director of Program Management at Trident Inc. and Pixelworks Inc. for supporting worldwide TV leading customers from design to mass productions. Mr. Chiang received BSEE from University of Chinese Culture University in Taiwan and MSEE from University of Southern California.
